- Leeds United have agreed to sign Joe Rodon on loan for the season from Tottenham, but still hold interest in signing Liverpool’s Nat Phillips.
The Whites are pressing on with improvements to their back four this summer as they attempt to cover for the loss of plenty of players on loan, as well as recent injury setbacks.
Liam Cooper’s ankle blow on Sunday means the club are going to need more in the centre-back department very soon.
Joe Rodon to Leeds?
A deal is expected to go through imminently to see the Wales international team up with his teammates Dan James and Ethan Ampadu at Elland Road, having been a long-term target of the club’s – stretching back to Marcelo Bielsa’s time in West Yorkshire.
Does this affect interest in Nat Phillips?
Leeds have also been interested in signing Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips, and as The Athletic’s Phil Hay relayed news of Leeds’ agreement to bring in Rodon, he shared further insight on Phillips
It’s still a move Leeds are interested in as things stand, as Hay wrote:
“Leeds manager Daniel Farke is still looking to strengthen his defence and has identified Rodon as a player of interest. The West Yorkshire club have also shown an interest in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.”
Is Joe Rodon a good signing?
Phillips does seem like it could be overkill for the centre-back slot if he does end up costing the previously reported £10million.
That is a lot of money for someone who might not even be a better fit for us than Rodon will be, so we’re best off spending the money elsewhere
If we could have got Phillips for less than half that price, then you’re looking at a very good signing, but not for £10million.
