According to the online news source, Man Utd and Newcastle United are showing a lot of interest in Rigg, who has been called the next “Jordan Henderson,” and both Premier League clubs attempted to sign him in the summer.

He had the option to stay at the Stadium of Light rather than leave the Black Cats and join teams like Manchester United or Newcastle, but he chose to stay.

Following his strong achievements for the club’s youth team and first team, the 16-year-old is considered one of Sunderland’s most potential young players.

He became the club’s youngest goal scorer ever as well as the youngest goal scorer in the history of the EFL Cup when he scored his first goal for Sunderland against Crewe Alexandra earlier last month.

Prior to the international break, Tony Mowbray’s team defeated Southampton 5-0 at the Stadium of Light as Rigg continued his stellar play for the team. It was his first league goal.

This season, he has participated in three games across all competitions and scored twice for Sunderland, who are now ranked seventh in the Championship with seven points after five games played.

He played in three Emirates FA Cup games and made 17 appearances for Sunderland’s senior team and youth team last season, contributing two assists.

Reinforcement

Mason Mount, an English midfielder, was acquired by Manchester United from Chelsea, while Sofyan Amrabat, a Moroccan, was acquired by the club on a season-long loan with the option of a permanent transfer.

Although injured, Mount and Amrabat are both anticipated to return to training following the September break. Despite making two appearances, Mount’s United career has not gotten off to the best of starts.

For Erik ten Hag’s team, who have had a rocky start to the new campaign and are now ranked 11th in the Premier League standings with six points from their first four games, he has yet to score or provide an assist.

The Red Devils have won two and lost two and have been hampered by injuries to some key players including Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Luke Shaw.

Rigg has surfaced as a prospective transfer target, and United may decide to renew their interest in the player during the January transfer window even though adding a midfielder may not be ten Hag’s first priority in January.
