Forest is still interested in a promising 17-year-old who cost £300,000 before signing a new contract.

When the January transfer market opens, Nottingham Forest will be eager to get Tom Watson, a young player for Sunderland. Recently, the Reds were interested in signing him, but he signed a new contract with the Black Cats.

According to The Sun, Forest remain interested and are now awaiting the green light to move for him. The Reds valued Watson at £300,000 in the summer but given his new deal that will have now increased.

Watson is an England youth international. If the player had signed for Forest during the summer transfer window, it’s likely that he would have joined the development ranks.

The 17-year-old has made a name for himself at Sunderland, with both the under-18 ranks and the under-21s. He’s scored 13 times from the wing in 32 appearances for the under-18s and has also scored twice in a handful of games in the Premier League 2.

He is now a wanted guy. He was given a new contract by Sunderland, although it’s more likely that they did so to maintain his value than to actually want to keep him at the Stadium of Light.

There is a gleaming academy in Forest. Because of this, he might view his transfer to the Premier League club as a step higher, and with Steve Cooper in charge, he would think the road to the first team is open.

Numerous clubs have the brilliant 17-year-old on their radar. Although he usually plays as a winger, he has also been used as a center-forward on numerous occasions.

Forest’s interest in Watson is probably going to increase in January. But with the player agreeing to a new contract, the Black Cats will now be in a strong position for discussions.

Right now, Forest present a compelling opportunity for potential new recruits. The team is improving in the Premier League, and tomorrow night’s victory would be another significant one.

Watson appears to be a player who will be kept in mind for the time being. In the big picture, he might turn out to be a good deal, so it will be interesting to see if Forest decides to move forward.
