There were five added minutes tagged on to the end of the game with Newcastle 4-1 up against Paris Saint-Germain, and as the French champions were on the attack in the 95th minute, Newcastle fans, players and staff were all just waiting for those three blasts on the whistle.
If there was a roof on St James’ Park, there wouldn’t be one any more as the roar inside the stadium was deafening.
As the TNT Sports cameras showed Eddie Howe on the touchline moments before the whistle blew, Sandro Tonali could be seen making his way along the bench giving out high-fives to his fellow players.

Then when the whistle blew Eddie Howe remained calm while he shook the hands of his opposite number Luis Enrique.
Howe soon made his way onto the pitch to congratulate his players, something that Jermaine Jenas absolutely loved as the TNT Sports commentator said: “Outstanding. The manager walking out there giving a big hug to all his players. I’m sure he couldn’t be prouder of them. They went out there and put on a performance tonight. It was a pleasure to see.”
There was a brief look inside the dressing room at full-time on TNT Sports too and you could see immediately how much that win meant to the players.
The fact that two Geordies got themselves on the scoresheet only makes the win even more special.

With Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan playing out a 0-0 draw, Newcastle sit atop the so-called group of death. It’s only a group of death because Newcastle are in it!
