Rangers went into their away meeting against Aris Limassol with confidence after defeating Real Betis at Ibrox in their first UEFA Europa League Group C fixture last month.

Praise for Rangers forward Abdallah Sima

Although Rangers fired manager Michael Beale last weekend due to a string of defeats in the Scottish Premiership, the supporters would have expected the squad to perform well in Europe, particularly against Aris.

Rangers, though, lost 2-1 under interim manager Steven Davis.

After 59 minutes, Rangers trailed 2-0.

In the 70th minute, the Gers did score thanks to a goal from Abdallah Sima, but the Scottish Premiership team was unable to score again before the end of the game.

Sima’s effort was praised by BBC Sport Scotland correspondent Jane Lewis in Limassol despite the fact that few Rangers players performed well.

“Abdallah Sima was a rare bright spark in what was a poor overall Rangers performance,” Lewis told BBC Sport.

“With a fantastic header, he brought his team back into the game, and his pace and vigor during the game earned him the victory.

“Goalkeeper Jack Butland receives passing grades as well.”

Impressive stats from Abdallah Sima

Abdallah Sima’s statistics are impressive.

Sima has played six minutes as a substitute and two starts for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership so far this year.

The 22-year-old attacker from Senegal has two goals in those contests.

The Rangers number 10 has two goals this season in two UEFA Europa League games.

Sima is currently on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion to Rangers.

In the upcoming weeks and months, it will be intriguing to watch if the forward starts more games for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
