READING FC MEN

When Reading FC and Charlton square off in this weekend’s EFL League 1 match, South East London is in for a showdown. Both teams come into this match with victories from the Football League Trophy, Charlton defeating Aston Villa’s U-21 team 4-2 and Reading crushing their rivals Swindon Town 5-0.

The club’s fortunes changed when Michael Appleton was hired as Charlton’s manager at the start of September. The Charlton leadership felt it necessary to hire the former Blackpool Head Coach after their team lost six of their first eight games of the season.

On September 8th, Appleton took office, and thus far, the results have been promising. Charlton is now unbeaten in their first six games under his direction, with three victories and three draws since his arrival.

Reading will try to build on their convincing win over their neighborhood rivals Swindon Town when they take on an in-form Charlton team at The Valley on Saturday, October 21.

READING FC WOMEN

Reading will host Sheffield United in their Women’s Barclays Championship matchup on Sunday as they make their way back to RG2. Following their 1-0 success over Lewes at the beginning of the month, the host team wants to clinch back-to-back home victories, while Sheffield United wants to avoid consecutive away losses following their loss to Blackburn last month. Sheffield United, who is attempting to overtake Reading and Liam Gilbert’s Royals, is just two points behind Reading but has played one fewer game as a result of a postponed game against Crystal Palace.

Luke Turner, the assistant coach, has temporarily taken charge of the Blades due to problems off the field. Turner led the London City Lionesses to a 3-1 victory in his interim position. However, it’s unclear how long Turner will have this job after two difficult home losses to Birmingham and Sunderland. While the club decides how to go with Jonathan Morgan, the interim manager is eager to guide the ship successfully.

A victory this weekend would be the ideal response to a tough week and keep Reading in touch with the table’s leaders.

Tickets for the Royals’ first School & Grassroots match, which takes place on Sunday, start at just £1 for 12 & Under, with steep reductions applied to all other ticket categories.
