R.J. Hunter has been working toward his NBA ambition for eight years……….

One thing is certain about the NBA journey: there will be humiliating experiences, moments when your passion for the sport is tested, and occasions when it feels as though the league has moved on without you.

Former Celtic R.J. Hunter is one of several former first-round choices, prospects, hopefuls, and potential cornerstones who are vying for one last NBA shot.

On Tuesday, the first-round pick from 2015 turns 30 and is now participating in training camp for the Hornets with little chance of making the team. Although he didn’t participate in the Celtics’ 127-99 victory over Charlotte on Thursday, he is content to simply be back in the locker room and working toward his goal.

Elite, contagious defense from Derrick White

It’s difficult to draw many conclusions from the preseason, but I believe the Celtics’ thrashing of the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night revealed the team’s strategy to focus on defense. And I’ll use two plays to demonstrate my point.

The first occurred early in the third quarter and was a classic Derrick White moment. What appeared to be a very normal block was actually the ideal illustration of why White is such a defensive strength. He can create severe angles at the rim with his freakishly long arms, which takes away LaMelo Ball’s typically deft finishing skills.
