This week’s “Sunday Night Football” features a game between two of the NFL’s most illustrious teams on the frozen tundra.
On Sunday, the Chiefs and Packers will square off at Lambeau Field in subfreezing conditions. And even though going into the affair, both sides find themselves in very different situations, it should prove crucial to the postseason race’s sweeping carousel. Having dominated the AFC West last season, Kansas City (8-3) has continued to build on its success and has risen to the top of the division. When your receiving corps has the lowest pass completion percentage in football, you can understand why Andy Reid’s team hasn’t been quite the force it was in previous years. Even so, you have a chance when you have Chris Jones, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes.
Meanwhile, Green Bay (5-6) is beginning a new chapter in its history. In his first year as a starter, Jordan Love has performed admirably, even pushing the Packers close to the postseason.
Love has guided me through eleven games. However, he is not by himself. Romeo Doubs leads the league in touchdowns this season with seven, and the trio of Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, and Kenny Clark makes up one of the league’s most underappreciated backlines. That’s not a guarantee it will be a classic, particularly with bad weather looking to be in store.
Nevertheless, this is football at its most outstanding. Slimy, sensitive, merciless, and deferential. All inside the hallowed boundaries of NFL greatness. How could something go wrong?
