Green Bay Packers have taken a dangerous decision on……….

On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers made three roster changes official. First, they took Kyu Blu Kelly, a cornerback, off the active roster. The other two involved the practice squad; as a result, linebacker Austin Ajiake was released and receiver Thyrick Pitts was signed by Green Bay. What you should know is as follows.

Thyrick Pitts - Football - University of Delaware Athletics

Kelly, an undrafted rookie in 2023, has had a turbulent start to his career. After being released by Seattle, he was grabbed off waivers by the Packers on November 15. Kelly played two snaps on defense and three on special teams during his only Green Bay game action, which came against Detroit.

Kelly’s dismissal is presumably to create space for Eric Stokes on the 53-man roster. Stokes is still on IR even though he has resumed practicing. He participated fully in each of the three sessions held last week, and before being declared questionable for the Giants game, he was inactive. Stokes’ three-week window to return to action ends on December 19, so the Packers have until then to add him back to the active roster.

The practice squad is involved in the other two transactions, one of which is the signing of Pitts, a Deleware rookie undrafted in 2023. Recently, Pitts visited the team for a workout.

At 6’3″ and 201 pounds, Pitts possesses the ideal combination of size and agility that the Packers desire in a receiver. He has a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 8.68 out of 10. Pitts lined up on the boundary for the majority of his snaps during his time in college. He totaled 237 targets over the course of several seasons, catching 61 percent of them at a yard and a half with 21 touchdowns. He was a vital component of the Deleware offense. In any case, Pitts performed admirably as a run-blocker in 2022 according to PFF’s stats.

In his pre-draft scouting report,’s Lance Zierlein provided the following analysis of Pitts’ game:

“Perimeter receiver who can get late-round or priority free agent looks with the measurables and pro-day testing.” Pitts has the ball abilities at the position that organizations are looking for. To become a more elusive target, he will require a lot of route work and must play at the same pace as he did on his pro day.

The Packers may have soon discovered that they are quite shorthanded at the receiver position. Christian Watson’s comeback window is still unknown, while Dontayvion Wicks departed the game on Monday night due to an ankle injury, while Jayden Reed may have suffered a concussion. Pitts won’t be expected to play on Sunday, but if any of those three miss time this week, he offers depth in practice. In addition, depending on the severity of Wicks’ and Reed’s ailments, Bo Melton and possibly Grant DuBose may be asked to play bigger roles.

The Packers cut linebacker Austin Ajiake from the practice squad to make place for Pitts. On November 14th, Ajiake, a 2023 undrafted rookie from UNLV, was added to the Green Bay practice squad. He has a lot of experience on special teams and good athleticism going into the NFL. De’Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, Eric Wilson, and Kristian Welch are all active linebackers for the Packers, making this a position of depth for them.
