For an initial €39 million, the 26-year-old joined from Dutch powerhouse Ajax in 2020, but he was ineffective at Old Trafford.
Van De Beek thrived under Erik ten Hag as a manager in Amsterdam, and not even reconnecting with him has been able to launch a career that appears certain to continue elsewhere.

Subject to a medical, Frankfurt is said to have tentatively agreed to take the Netherlands international on loan in January. There is allegedly a 15 million euro (£12.9 million) option in the deal to make the transfer permanent.
Until that agreement is fulfilled, Van De Beek will continue to train with and be a member of United’s injured roster.
The midfielder, whose deal with the Red Devils expires in 2025, has only played in two games this season and 62 overall due to injuries.

Van De Beek was interested in leaving United over the summer, but despite interest from several clubs, he chose to spend the second half of the 2021–2022 season on loan at Everton. His name was left off of their Champions League roster.
