Newcastle United are planning a move for Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella, who the Magpies sought before signing Sandro Tonali, according to Football Fancast. Barella has been linked with a January departure from the Champions League finalists, with Newcastle being one of the interested parties.

Tonali could be “forgotten” if Barella is acquired, according to the source, because his Italian rival has more experience, notably on the big stage with his Champions League final appearance. Personally, I believe this is a bit of a reach. No one can argue that Barella has the potential to become one of our top midfielders, but Tonali is also a contender. There is no way that acquiring Barella would render our summer investment in Tonali obsolete, since Howe is clearly a great fan of Tonali and will welcome him back with open arms.
