Liverpool have a lot of senior absentees to deal with as they head into the busy festive season, but so too do their opponents this weekend. Crystal Palace are battling for form this season and now sit 14th in the table having picked up only four wins so far in 2023/24.

Roy Hodgson will face his old side at Selhurst Park in the early kick-off on Saturday, hoping to turn things around, but he will be missing several key players.

Throughout the summer, Cheick Doucoure was linked with a move to Anfield, but the Mali international stayed with the Eagles while the Reds pursued Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

The midfielder will be unable to show Jurgen Klopp what he is missing in the weekend’s early kick-off after suffering a catastrophic Achilles injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season.

He has now been joined on the sidelines by right-back Tyrick Mitchell, who suffered a hip injury in Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Bournemouth.

More short-term absences include Eberechi Eze and Rob Holding, who are both currently struggling from ankle injuries and won’t be available to feature against the Reds.

Like Liverpool, Crystal Palace will also be without one of their goalkeepers for the meeting as Dean Henderson continues his recovery from a thigh injury that reoccurred back in September.

Henderson, on the other hand, is no longer considered first-choice at Selhurst Park, having been surpassed in the pecking order by Sam Johnstone.

Palace’s youthful attacker Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has also been ruled out till the new year with a thigh injury.

Klopp will have to make due without many key players, including Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, Alisson, Andy Robertson, Thiago, and Stefan Bajcetic, who are all sidelined.

December is often a season when squads must be rotated to ensure team health.

Liverpool placed a 2-0 win against Sheffield United between themselves and Manchester City, and will try to keep the pressure on leaders Arsenal this weekend, when they travel to high-flying Aston Villa in Saturday’s evening kick-off.
