Crystal Palace should sign 'quality' prospect on loan following Tyrick Mitchell injury update - We are Palace

Crystal Palace have been dealt a twin injury blow, with midfielders Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze potentially out for up to six months and four weeks, respectively.

Doucoure suffered an Achilles injury after slipping awkwardly while playing a pass in the second half of Palace’s 2-1 loss to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, while Eze injured his ankle during a collision with defender Gabriel Osho in the first half.

Despite his best efforts, he was eventually forced to leave the game four minutes into the second half.

Doucoure, a Mali midfielder, has been one of Palace’s most significant players since joining from Lens in July 2022. The 23-year-old, who has started 11 of their 13 Premier League games this season, was treated on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher after 54 minutes, his hands covering his face in pain.

After the game, manager Roy Hodgson stated that it was “not an injury that will keep him out for a short period of time.”

Eze has only recently returned from a hamstring injury suffered in a 1-0 win over Manchester United in September, which caused him to miss three games last month.

“The way I saw it, he was brought down and as he was trying to get away, the player landed on him and has damaged his ankle,” Hodgson said in a statement.

For the first time this season, Hodgson had a full squad to choose from against Luton, after Palace had been hit by so many injuries that he produced a piece of paper with the names of his injured players in his pre-match press conference before the goalless draw with Nottingham Forest last month.

“It’s our injury list,” he explained, unfolding the A4 sheet. “There are so many right now that I’m forgetting.” “Just in case I’d forgotten.”

Palace have lost four of their previous five Premier League games and are facing a difficult run. Following a trip to West Ham on Sunday, the club will play back-to-back home games against Bournemouth and Liverpool. They will then travel to Manchester City before playing Brighton & Hove Albion on December 21.
