The 11 Reading FC players that will leave on a free transfer next season in exchange for six players from….
To say Reading have had financial issues in the last 18 months would be an understatement as they struggle to find a long-term solution for the club’s future.
The Royals were served with a winding-up order by HMRC early this summer for unpaid tax payments, and things were looking dark in Berkshire.
With speculation of the club going into administration, the on-field issues pale in contrast as Rubén Sellés’ side looks to rebound from last season’s relegation.
Nonetheless, with the club back in the third division for the first time in two decades, it has been far from smooth sailing, with a four-point deduction adding to the confusion.
With the Royals in the bottom four and the Reading supporters eager for something to offer them hope for the future, the new-look squad has struggled to make an immediate effect.
Because of the club’s financial circumstances, many of the new additions are on relatively short-term contracts, while some longer-serving individuals are also due to exit next summer, leaving the squad in a perilous position for a variety of reasons following what will be another eventful season.
The 25-year-old, on the other hand, has not played since November 2022 due to injury and is unlikely to return once his contract expires.
After breaking into the league in 2018, the academy graduate has played more than 100 times and has captained his team on multiple occasions.
The 24-year-old defender has been in and out of the starting lineup this season and could be on his way out after being courted by Championship and Scottish clubs earlier this summer.
Last season, the former VfB Stuttgart defender had his first taste of English football, appearing four times on loan with Blackburn Rovers.
Mola, who made an unimpressive initial impression, signed a one-year agreement with Reading at the end of the summer and has since played a minor role in Sellés’ plans.
After a good trial, the former AFC Wimbledon defender, who played more than 80 times in League One for the Dons, played 28 times in his first season last season.
According to Football Insider, the left-sided player has since signed a one-year deal for the coming season and has battled his way back into contention after being sought by Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion this summer.
Azeez, another Reading academy graduate, has shown flashes of quality despite making only 15 Championship starts in the last three seasons.
The 22-year-old has now established himself as a regular starter on either wing, but has struggled to be a useful presence in the final third, with little to show for his efforts.
