This Monday, a broken Thompson stood in front of a Melbourne court and admitted to using ice.

When probed about his drug use, he simply stated, “Ice.”

Thompson admitted that it had become a habit.

‘I was smoking way too much,’ he admitted. ‘It was a trying moment. In a poor way, I left the industry where I worked.’

Thompson related his problems to Essendon’s supplement crisis in 2012, which rocked the club and league.

From 1983 until 1996, he appeared in 202 games with the Bombers, captaining the team from 1992 to 1995.

According to legend, he used to walk around with bare feet as a child and was so nicknamed ‘Bomba’ after the Tarzan character.
