With Green Bay down to one healthy running back, Jordan Love recognized his team’s future depended on his right arm.

The first-year starter delivered the greatest performance of his young career.

Green Bay defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 23-20 on Sunday after Love passed for 322 yards and found Romeo Doubs for a 24-yard score with 2:33 remaining. It was a watershed moment for a young Packers squad that has often fallen short late in games this season.

“That’s always in the back of my head, just the past experiences that we’ve had, being in this situation and not capitalizing,” he said. “Our message was simply, ‘Go finish.'” Go forth and compete. And then go be fantastic.’ “I believe we did.”

Love completed 27 of 40 passes for 341 yards, becoming the first Packer quarterback to do so since Aaron Rodgers on Dec. 12, 2021, against the Chicago Bears.

“I wasn’t aware of that,” Love said. “That’s a pretty crazy stat, to be honest.”

Four of the Packers’ six losses have been decided by 11 points or less. Five of the Chargers’ six losses have been by a total of 14 points.

“It’s tough, bro,” said Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James. “As I already stated, we’re playing hard. It’s difficult. We’re only a few plays away. I believe you must find a means to complete the task.”

Chargers coach Brandon Staley scoffed when asked again after the game if he had considered relinquishing defensive play-calling duties.
