The Geelong Cats community is in mourning following the death of Henry McMinn, a cherished six-year-old AFL fan who died on Saturday after a battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
The small kid, described as a ‘beloved brother and gentle and kind child’ by his mother Naomi Uwland, had been in remission and was receiving maintenance treatment.
He recently became ill and was brought to the hospital, where his health rapidly deteriorated.

‘It shouldn’t have occurred like this,’ Ms Uwland told the Geelong Advertiser.
‘He was a fighter, a powerful man. It wasn’t cancer that killed our son.He preferred watching the Discovery Channel to watching cartoons since he had an ancient soul.

The club also paid tribute to Henry on social media, writing, ‘Fly high Henry’.
‘Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of having Henry for our team photo day, when he inspired us all with his courage and positivity,’ the club wrote on its Facebook page.
‘We are profoundly saddened to learn of his death and express our condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.’
Former Geelong captain Joel Selwood, who just became a parent, also responded on the tribute with love hearts.
The community has rallied around Henry’s family, with a GoFundMe page set up to cover the funeral and provide support to the family.

Scott McMinn, Henry’s father, has resorted to social media to emphasize that it was the cancer therapy that caused Henry’s death.
‘This is the most difficult thing to write. But I feel compelled to do it so that everyone knows our Henry died cancer-free… Sons bury their fathers, not fathers bury their sons. Dads, I’ll always adore you, little farmer… I’m befuddled, gutted, devastated, and outraged.’
