Jackson Chourio made headlines this summer after the Milwaukee Brewers signed him to an eight-year, $82 million contract that included club options and incentives.
Chourio received this contract despite having never played in the Major Leagues. It was the most money ever paid to a player who had never played in an MLB game.

So, according to MLB Pipeline, “Who is next season’s Jackson Chourio?” In other words, who could play themselves into such a situation?

One analyst, Jim Callis, said it would be shortstop Roderick Arias, a Top 10 New York Yankees prospect. Callis believes the youngster is about to make a significant leap:

He has the potential to hit for power, hit for average, be a solid-to-plus runner, have a cannon arm, and play shortstop. He excelled in the Florida Complex League. He hit [.267] with six home runs in 27 games before suffering a short-term injury. He’s going to be fantastic, in my opinion. Last year, he broke his thumb. He won’t turn 20 till the season is nearly over.”

He had a.267/.423/.505/.928 slash line with six home runs and 26 RBI. He added two doubles, two triples, and 17 stolen bases to his total.
He hit.230/.400/.435/.835 in two seasons in the Yankees organization, with eight doubles, four triples, nine home runs, and 37 RBI. He has stolen 27 bases, walked 55 times, and struck out 75 times.
