The Atlanta Braves recently signed Yolbert Sanchez to a minor league contract as a free agent to increase the depth of their minor league roster, according to the team’s transactions log.

Having played for the Chicago White Sox organization in every minor league season up to this point, Sanchez joins Atlanta.

The White Sox signed Sanchez, a 22-year-old Cuban international free agent, in July of 2019. Sanchez had a strong first season with the DOSL White Sox that summer, posting a.827 OPS across 29 games. However, because there would be no 2020 minor league season, Sanchez would only be able to play in instructional league action the following year and would not be able to return to the field until 2021.

According to MLB Pipeline, Sanchez was the White Sox’s No. 23 overall prospect in 2021. The 24-year-old had a good season split between the High-A and Double-A levels, slashing a combined.308/.352/.419 with nine home runs, 42 RBI, and five stolen bases in 101 games. At the end of the season, Sanchez would also participate in the Arizona Fall League, where he finished with a 14-for-35 record and eight RBI in 12 games.

According to MLB Pipeline, the infielder would rise to become Chicago’s No. 15 prospect in 2022. Sanchez would go on to slash a combined.287/.346/.344 with three home runs, 46 RBI, and 11 stolen bases across 127 games, the most of which were in Triple-A.

However, Sanchez would drop out of Chicago’s Top 30 this previous season due to his slashing. He is currently 26 years old.108 games, 271/.321/.333, three HR, forty RBI, and six SB with Triple-A Charlotte.

In September of 2023, the ChiSox released him, despite his early promise. With the Braves, he hopes to fulfill that promise once more.

Going forward, Sanchez will contribute to the organization’s middle infield depth and is a player to keep an eye on should he be called up to the major leagues in the near future. However, Sanchez will start in Triple-A at the start of the 2024 season because he was recently assigned to the Gwinnett Stripers.
