On Saturday, the New York Mets made bad baseball history against the Atlanta Braves for the second straight day.
In a doubleheader sweep at the hands of their division rivals, the Mets gave up 27 runs, one day after failing to score a run despite having 16 baserunners.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Mets today tied a franchise record last seen in 1969. They tied the Mets record for most runs allowed in a single day when they gave up 27 runs in a doubleheader against the Braves.

The Mets dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 21-3, and then the nightcap, 6-0.
The Mets, who entered the season with hopes of winning the World Series but ultimately sold and shipped off Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar, are having a miserable season.

The Mets’ record on the year is now 52-65 following the losses. They are in danger of finishing last in the division as they are only 0.5 games ahead of the Washington Nationals for fourth place in the National League East.
The Braves are still the best baseball team, to be sure. As they push for the first overall seed in the National League playoffs, they are currently 75-41.
Playoffs between these two teams resume on Sunday at 7:10 p.m. ET. Right-hander Yonny Chirinos of the Braves faces rookie Kodai Senga of the Mets.
