Manager of READING FC, Ruben Selles, acknowledged that he hopes to have Sam Smith and club captain Andy Yiadom back for the team’s trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.
In the final seconds of their Tuesday night match against Fleetwood Town, the Royals let a goal slip away from them in the 95th minute, negating Lewis Wing’s incredible opening goal.
Yiadom and Smith, who were both rested due to potential injuries, were not present for the Royals; however, Selles is optimistic that they will return for the team’s trip to the league leaders this coming weekend.
Selles said: “Andy Yiadom and Sam Smith, both after the last game had some fatigue and risk of injury.
“For Yids, it was his knee. After a couple of games he needs to rest for a little bit.
“We were not able to use them for today, but hopefully that rest is enough for them to be with us on Saturda
“We didn’t start well; for the first thirty-five minutes, we didn’t control the game the way we wanted to,” he went on. They were winning the match.
“We were in control of the game after the break and had two one-on-one opportunities with the goalie where we needed to score.
“We give up a goal at the end that we shouldn’t give up. We need to perform better because we were frustrated in the end.
There was a lot going on in the second action. A poor recovery and a poor clearance.
We had the opportunity to end the game before the last ten to fifteen minutes, in my opinion.
Kelvin had a lengthy one-on-one, and Femi also had a chance to go one-on-one, but he opted to seize the opportunity too soon and mishandled the ball.
