Reading’s unbeaten run has come to an end as league leaders Portsmouth defeated us handily to become the first team to double-over us this year. It was a game that brutally exposed the shortcomings of this Reading team, even though the 4-1 scoreline may not have suggested that this was the battering of a terrible side.

For the first thirty minutes or so, the Royals were excellent, and they didn’t completely embarrass themselves in the last hour. Conversely, Pompey played poorly in the first half and struggled to find their best throughout the second. Nevertheless, it was clear how different the two sides were.
Due to injuries and player departures in January, Reading is still establishing itself as a team, while Portsmouth is leading the division and has experienced significant growth. The latter team knows how to effectively eliminate other sides in a manner similar to this, while the former can play well for a significant portion of the game and still win nothing. even when not operating at full capacity. particularly on their own territory.

Reading made an early impression, keeping the hosts at a distance and appearing remarkably confident and upbeat about the future. This appeared to be Pompey’s greatest defeat since the Battle of Pharsalus for a while. But if the Royals wanted anything from this game, they had to take advantage of that time.
Rather, opportunities came and went. Shortly after kickoff, Paul Mukairu missed a long-range attempt, and Andy Yiadom, Femi Azeez, and Lewis Wing also attempted long-range shots. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan also forced a stop at close range when he went in down the left. When Mukairu encountered a cross at close range, he likely had the best opportunity of the group, but he was unable to maintain his finish.
