Braking new from..Detroit Tigers Spring Training Notes Day 2: Pitching prospects make early impressions

Here is a recap of Day 2 of the Detroit Tigers Spring Training from MCB, who is on the ground in Lakeland. The pitchers were the main attraction today.

President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris took Detroit Tigers owner Christopher Ilitch on a tour of the backfields during an exciting Day 2 of full-squad workouts in Lakeland, Florida. Early in camp, a couple of young pitchers made an impression, and live batting practice capped out day two.

A.J. Hinch’s fondness for left-hander Brant Hurter may be explained simply
Hinch talked about Brant Hurter, who pitched during batting practice on Tuesday morning, during his media appearance. Hurter was essential to Erie in the postseason, pitching 13 scoreless innings in the last stretch. In 2023, Hurter led the system with a 2.91 FIP.

“I hope all of our development guys challenge the strike zone and throw as many strikes as he does,” Hinch remarked.

Hinch went on to talk about right-hander Wilmer Flores, who was added to the 40-man roster and seems to have lost weight during the offseason.

When Wilmer does well in the minors, he has weapons, an aggressive attitude, and count leverage. These are the differences between Wilmer during his troubles.Hinch remarked, “Gotta get him to use it in the box.” “He’s going to learn a lot, he feels like he should have been here before (being selected to the 40-man), and he would have been if he would have thrown more strikes, and I think all he needs is that challenge, and work on refining his skills, he’s closer than he thinks” .
