A night after leading the Celtics to an overtime victory over the Pistons with 31 points, Tatum did not play in Friday night’s game against the Raptors due to his left ankle. He sprained it in the first quarter of the Celtics’ opening game on their road trip against the Warriors, and as a result, he was unable to play in their victory over the Kings. Tatum has only missed his second game of the year, but the Celtics are undoubtedly considering the long picture.

Coach Joe Mazzulla of the C’s stated, “I think just knowing when the time is time when you have to give something a rest, and sometimes it can do more harm than good.” “So kind of just realizing that and having faith in that long-term perspective and long-game mentality, as you mentioned.”
One of the important Celtics out on Friday was Tatum. Al Horford (rest) and Kristaps Porzingis (left calf injury management) were also absent from the second part of a back-to-back versus the Raptors. Jrue Holiday, who was doubtful because of a right elbow sprain, was cleared to play, while Jaylen Brown, who had missed one game due to a low back contusion, made his comeback.
