Breaking: A 25-year-old linebacker signs with the Green Bay Packers

This off-season, the Green Bay Packers will be working hard to strengthen their defense. “Middle of the pack” is insufficient for the team led by Jeff Hafley. A unit that appears to have the talent but hasn’t been able to put it all together will benefit from the fresh perspective and enthusiasm that the entirely redesigned defensive coaching staff will provide.

A 25-year-old linebacker will join the Packers for the 2024 season, at the very least, it was announced today.

The Packers have re-signed linebacker Kristian Welch, according to several sources.

Prior to the start of the season, Welch, 25, joined the Packers practice squad. In September, he was added to the active roster. He saw 210 special teams snaps in his 14 games played with the team, recording six tackles on those teams.

Welch’s return allows Rich Bisaccia to maintain one of his most reliable special team players, particularly in light of the Packers’ move to a 4-3 base defense.

It will be difficult for Anders Carlson to hold onto his roster spot. He still needs to perform, but the Packers will give him every chance to earn the position.

Less than ninety-six hours after the Packers’ season ended, Jack Podlesny signed a contract.

Podlesny (6-0, 195) started for the Bulldogs for three seasons, making 61 of 74 field goals (82.4%) and 182 of 184 extra point baskets (98.9%). In spite of this, in 2022 he only made three of his eight field goals that were longer than forty yards (37.5%).

The Packers’ coverage teams will continue to be improved by Rich Bisaccia, but in the off-season, penalties will be the main emphasis. In 2023, the Packers were among the NFL clubs with the highest penalty counts on special teams.
