JUST NOW: Birmingham City Jay Stanfield gets severe injury ahead of…

Ipswich Town injury blow would be bad news for Birmingham City: View

The Tractor Boys were promoted from League One last season, and they have seamlessly made the step up to the second tier, spending much of the campaign in the automatic promotion places.

Ipswich suffered a setback as they were beaten 4-0 by promotion rivals Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, but they picked up an excellent point in the 1-1 draw against leaders Leicester City at Portman Road on Boxing Day.

As of right now, Kieran McKenna’s team is five points ahead of Southampton in third position in the table. They will play next on Friday night at home against Queens Park Rangers.

But the news that George Hirst, the striker, will be out for a long time has given a severe blow to Ipswich.
Although the severity of the injury is still being determined, McKenna called Hirst’s hamstring injury “significant” after he was pulled off the field in the first half of the match against Leicester.

Birmingham City should be concerned about George Hirst’s injury. With Hirst out and Dane Scarlett back for Tottenham Hotspur, Ipswich only has two senior forwards in Kayden Jackson and Freddie Ladapo, so McKenna will undoubtedly want to bolster this position in January.

The East Anglian Daily Times reports that Jay Stansfield, a striker for Fulham who is presently on loan at Birmingham, has drawn interest from the Tractor Boys.
