Former first-round pick for the Steelers says he’s open to rejoining the team
This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers added a ton of talent to their roster.
Their recent actions have completely restructured a team that struggled mightily in the 2023 campaign.
It appears that one of their previous players might wish to join the team as a new member.
In a Steelerstakeaways.com interview with Ron Lippock, edge rusher Bud Dupree stated that he would consider returning to Pittsburgh if the right situation presented itself.
“Certainly! If the right moment arrived, without a doubt! Both the organization and Tomlin are excellent, and he is who he is. I would definitely return because the standards are the standards.
After a stellar collegiate career at Kentucky, the Steelers selected Dupree with the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 draft.
It turned out to be a wise decision for them.
In his rookie season, he had an immediate impact with four sacks, and by the third year, he was a regular starter for the squad.
He recorded six sacks and twelve tackles for a loss in that third season.
He recorded 5.5 sacks, 25 pressures, 8 tackles for a loss, and even added a pick-six in the next season.
The Steelers decided to bring him back for a fifth season because of his success.
Dupree had the finest season of his career in the fifth year. That season, he recorded 11.5 sacks, 68 tackles, and 16 tackles for a loss.
He was given the Steelers franchise tag for the 2020 campaign as a result. Despite playing in only 11 games, he recorded 8 sacks and 8 tackles for a loss.
He made a substantial salary that season thanks to his performance. He and the Titans agreed to a five-year, $82.5 million deal.
The Titans let Dupree go after just two seasons because the contract didn’t work out for them.
He signed a one-year contract with the Falcons in 2023, where he started 16 games. He has eight tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks at the end of the season.
Dupree is once again a free agent after having a respectable season in Atlanta.
