JUST IN: Miami Dolphins’ Shaq Barrett Sends Warning To Buccaneers After Release

Shaq Barrett of the Dolphins warns the Buccaneers upon his release.

Shaq Barrett, an edge rusher, was released by the Tampa Bay Bucs earlier in the offseason. He was eventually signed by the Miami Dolphins in free agency to a one-year contract.

Barrett’s goal right now is to make the Buccaneers regret trading him in.

According to NFL media’s Grant Gordon, Barrett stated, “I still have a lot to prove.” “Especially being removed from a different team. That alone adds a whole new load of fuel to the fire. I’m sure the Dolphins will be glad they signed me. Tampa will be furious that I left because I’m going to have an incredible year and our team is going to have incredible success soon.

After playing in 16 games and recording 52 tackles, 4.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, and a defensive score, Barrett’s 2023 campaign was somewhat lackluster.

Barrett was dismissed by Tampa Bay because it felt that his pass-rushing abilities had diminished and that they would have to re-sign important players like wide receiver Mike Evans and quarterback Baker Mayfield.

After playing NCAA football at Colorado State, Barrett was not selected in the draft and signed a deal with the Denver Broncos in 2015.

Before joining the Bucs in 2019, he played his first four years of professional football with the Broncos, where he largely had mediocre success.

Barrett then became a star, making his first Pro Bowl appearance in Tampa after recording 58 tackles, 19.5 sacks, an interception, and six forced fumbles in his rookie season. In addition, he was selected to the Second Team All-Pro and placed fourth in the Defensive Player of the Year competition.

Since then, Barrett has only once recorded more than ten sacks; that was in 2021, when he recorded 51 tackles, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Maybe Shaq Barrett can find his old form again at South Beach, or maybe the Bucs released him for the right reason.

Next season, we will learn.
