We reported earlier on Tuesday that the Steelers had investigated the possibility of trading for Aiyuk. Aiyuk gained notoriety a few hours later after playing directly into the rumors.

Through X, the 49ers receiver sent Tomlin a public message:

“@CoachTomlin they say we’re twins, they say. How do you feel? Aiyuk enquired.

But Aiyuk’s post’s timing will undoubtedly cause people to take notice.

Aiyuk’s salary in 2024 is expected to be $14.124 million, since the 49ers exercised his fifth-year option. Last season, he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and 7 touchdowns with the NFC champs. In the meanwhile, the Steelers have signed quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, who might complement George Pickens as a top receiving option.

Rumors surfaced earlier that Aiyuk wanted to leave San Francisco because he wasn’t pleased there. The post on Tuesday will only stoke trade rumors.

After seeing the quarterback discuss his reasons for wanting to leave Pittsburgh during his first news conference with the Philadelphia Eagles, the former wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers slammed Pickett on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Baby, transfer portal! Washington wrote on X, “Smdh.”

Washington defended his statement in a tweet, saying that Pickett is “a product of the generation” that he belongs to. But the ex-receiver didn’t stop criticizing Pickett in his reply to a fan on X.

“LMAO He knows better and will come to regret his choice later! In response to a fan who questioned whether Pickett believed he would start ahead of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, Washington wrote, “SMH.”

Following that, Washington shared a GIF depicting a humorous exchange between Steelers general manager Omar Khan and Pickett.
