Kirk Cousins Injury Update: Atlanta Falcons Expect Healthy QB in Season Opener - Sports Illustrated Atlanta Falcons News, Analysis and More

The signing of former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins by the Atlanta Falcons was one of the greatest free agent signings. It had been rumored for a few seasons that the cousins should move teams, and that is exactly what happened.

The signal caller was signed by the Falcons to a four-year, $180 million contract after they gave him a good contract. The problem is that Cousins just recovered from an Achilles injury sustained in Week 8. Although recuperating from an Achilles tendon requires time, professional football physician Dr. David Chao has disclosed a projected timeline for Cousins’ comeback to the Falcons on Bleav.

Now Kirk Cousins has it different than Aaron Rodgers. It’s his right Achilles, the push-off side. And so that’s a bigger deal for throwing downfield than accuracy. But he actually has more time. Yes, it was a week-eight injury, but he’s not racing for last season. He’s looking at this season, which actually gives him net more time.”

Even though Cousins tore his right Achilles, Dr. Chao is suggesting that he still has more time to heal. In an attempt to get himself ready for the Jets’ postseason drive, Aaron Rodgers was trying to outpace time.

Cousins will have even more time to heal as the offseason goes on, having already had plenty of time.

“I have no doubt that Kirk Cousins will be ready for Atlanta’s opening game. Is he, in your opinion, 100% on the Achilles? Perhaps not, but certainly competent enough to devise a strategy and carry out his duties. And if it weren’t the case, I would be shocked. Right now, his rehab video appears to be going well. And I believe he will get there, barring any obstacles. He’ll probably be on the field for the majority of OTAs until he gets used to the squad.

Based on his observation of Cousins’ rehabilitation video, Dr. Chao is confident the quarterback will be prepared for OTAs. Although the Falcons did not sign Cousins to a large contract so he wouldn’t start the season, we assume they will want to go cautiously with him.
