After dismissing Gracia, Leeds United appoints Sam Allardyce as manager.
Sam Allardyce, a 68-year-old former England coach, was hired by Leeds United till the end of the season after the relegation-threatened club fired manager Javi Gracia, setting up an odd reunion in the Premier League.
During the second half of the 2020–21 season, Allardyce served as West Bromwich Albion’s coach for the last time. During that time, he was unsuccessful in his short-term goal of keeping the side in the Premier League.
Despite this, Leeds has continued to look to Allardyce—who was formerly thought of as a survival specialist—to succeed Gracia, who is leaving the position after just two months on the job and three wins out of his twelve games as manager.
Leeds dropped five of its seven games in April and gave up 23 goals, the most goals ever given up in a Premier League month. Gracia’s final match turned out to be the 4-1 loss on Sunday away to Bournemouth.
With four games left, the squad is only one goal away from leaving the relegation zone, sitting in fourth-to-last place in the standings.
The Times of London, a British tabloid, claims that Allardyce will receive a salary of over three million pounds ($3.75 million) should he manage to keep Leeds in the Premier League. It’s a record breaking sixth time he’s been appointed during a season and his ninth management position in the top league.

Allardyce expressed his shock at being given the chance.
“I never imagined there would be jobs offered at this point in the season,” he remarked. “I recognized the person right away when the phone rang and I recognized the name. I said “yes” after approximately two seconds.
