NEWS NOW: Birmingham City Coach Has A Misunderstanding With Jay Stansfield, Says He Is Not Capable Enough For…

Tony Mowbray provides an explanation for Jay Stansfield’s benching during Birmingham City’s loss.

Tony Mowbray reports that Sheffield Wednesday’s starting lineup will not feature top scorer Jay Stansfield in the most recent Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive.

Jay Stansfield was a substitute in Birmingham City's 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday

According to Tony Mowbray, weariness was the reason behind Jay Stansfield’s exclusion from Birmingham City’s starting lineup at Hillsborough.

The Blues suffered another away loss on Wednesday, and Stansfield was an unexpected absence from the starting lineup. After the Blues fell behind 2-0, Mowbray brought in his nine-goal top scorer, but Stansfield was unable to spark a comeback.

The 21-year-old played more than 40 minutes in the game, but he was unable to get a clear-cut opportunity from his teammates. Stansfield should be back in the starting lineup for Sunderland and Blackburn’s doubleheader the following week.

The appointment of former Blues manager John Eustace as head coach on Friday has added intrigue to their matchup against Blackburn on Tuesday. When Mowbray’s old team, Sunderland, visits St Andrew’s the following Saturday, he won’t require any further motivation.

Mowbray gave this explanation for his choice to rest Stansfield: “He was very stiff, very sore.” He’s had a lot of football experience.

“He wasn’t going to play ninety minutes in all three of this week’s games. He sat on the bench tonight, and ideally he would have stayed there if we had been two or three up at that point. He needed to step up.

“You cannot continue to flogging a player who is in pain and having difficulty. Since he is still a small boy, I have no issues at all leaving him on the bench.
