A soccer fan fell from the top deck of the stadium and was taken to the hospital.
After apparently falling from the top deck of Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium in southwest London on Wednesday night, a Leeds United soccer fan was brought to the hospital.
British media reported on the event shortly after Leeds had taken the lead 1-0 against Chelsea in the first half of their FA Cup last-16 match, using footage from social media.
The Championship team, who compete in the second division of English soccer, released a statement saying, “Leeds United can confirm an incident involving a Leeds United supporter occurred in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge during the first-half of tonight’s FA Cup game.”
“The emergency services are handling the investigation into the incident. We won’t be commenting further at this time.
According to London’s Metropolitan Police, the fan was brought to the hospital “for treatment.”
In a statement provided to CNN Sport, the force stated, “Officers, alongside paramedics and staff from Chelsea FC, responded to an injured man in the away end during the match with Leeds United on Wednesday, 28 February.”
