Tomlin started by talking about how he left the post-game news conference after the Steelers’ AFC Wild Card playoff defeat to the Buffalo Bills. He expressed regret about it, but added that he didn’t think it was the appropriate time or place to ask questions about contract negotiations.

It’s a highly personal matter. I doubt any of us are thinking like that on game day. Of course not, Tomlin continued. During his press conference, he addressed the reports that he was going to take a year off and informed the reporters that he had never given it any thought.

In response to a question about his availability for the 2024–25 campaign, Tomlin stated he intended to play again for the Pittsburgh Steelers the next year. He thinks contract negotiations will go place on schedule and in a timely manner.

After Matt Canada left as offensive coordinator, Mike Sullivan and Eddie Faulkner co-managed the offense. However, Tomlin stated that the team will seek an outside candidate to take over as offensive coordinator.

In conjunction with a new offensive coordinator coming to the Steel City, that will have an impact on the quarterback play. Multiple questions were asked about QB Mason Rudolph’s play down the stretch of the season and how QB Kenny Pickett is involved in those plans.

Tomlin confirmed to the media Thursday that Picket will resume his QB1 status, but that going into the 2024-25 season, it will be a competition.

“I think competition is good. I think it’s good for all of us. I think it brings out the best in all of us,” he added.

That being said, Tomlin does believe the Steelers’ starting quarterback for the 2024 season is on the roster currently.

The 2024 NFL Free Agency period begins on March 13. The 2024 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 25, and the Steelers currently hold the 20th pick.
