San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan responds to criticism after his team loses in the Super Bowl
Following the team’s 25-22 overtime defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58, head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers addressed questions about his capacity to win big games in front of the media on Tuesday.
Shanahan said, “The fact that we keep getting there shows how much we win big games,” in response to the increasing number of calls criticizing his performance in pivotal games. Even though Shanahan has lost two Super Bowls in five seasons, he stressed that one game will ultimately determine success or failure.
During his podium speech on Monday night at Allegiant Stadium, Brock Purdy talked about getting his fiancée perfume on Valentine’s Day.
He mentioned that they had been practicing their country music dancing in anticipation of their upcoming nuptials. Purdy ignored the boos and jeers of 49ers supporters as they poured “Purdy, Purdy” down on him.
The child who was the last to hear his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft is still the same one. Some people mock him, saying he’s just a quarterback’s game manager. He’s also going to participate in his first Super Bowl.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was predictably asked about this narrative surrounding his quarterback — the player he identified in San Francisco’s 2022 training camp as possibly the team’s best signal-caller — and didn’t shy from speaking honestly.
“It’s such a weird conversation to hear the whole world talking about this,” Shanahan told NFL Network’s Michael Robinson on Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night. “In my opinion, there’s no such thing as a great quarterback if you can’t be a game manager. So, I don’t get how being a system quarterback or a game manager is a negative.
“Like, the job of a quarterback is to manage the game, and it is to run the system. The system is what you work on all week. That’s what the O-line works on, that’s what your five eligibles work on — that’s everything. And at quarterback, if you want to be great, you better be able to run that system and you better be able to manage the game….
