Rangers: Jeff Stelling live discusses the decision to move James Tavernier on talkSPORT
Jeff Stelling has stated that James Tavernier’s age will be the decisive factor in whether or not he transfers from Rangers to an English team this summer.
Despite Tavernier’s outstanding accomplishments, the iconic announcer said that a transfer south of the border is unlikely to happen this summer given his age of thirty-two.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ “astonishing” goal-scoring record at Ibrox has had Andy Townsend drooling over the right-back’s contributions to the team.
Stelling made the following prediction while speaking live on talkSPORT at 08:53: “He’s 32 now, he’s not going to be coming south of the border, that is for sure.”
Townsend continued, saying, “That’s amazing—some record.” It’s an incredible record. Having someone like him in those defensive areas is such a benefit to his club, and I am confident in his ability to play farther forward.
“That record is excellent beyond measure. An incredible record of scoring goals.
James Tavernier crucial for Rangers once again v Hibs
The praise for Tavernier comes after he scored again in the 3-1 win against Hibs, inspiring the conversation about his outstanding goalscoring record.
The captain was terrific again as he helped his side to another win at Ibrox despite having rather uncharacteristically missed a penalty in the first half, before minutes later firing his team ahead after a late run into the box.
Tavernier will be aware of how big next week’s clash against Celtic is, with the result potentially deciding the destination of this season’s SPFL title, and their recent poor record will need to be flipped upside down if they want to take all three points.
Concern had emerged that he might have suffered an injury towards the end of the game, but he quickly put any worry at ease on that front.
The news that Tavernier will not be injured for the game is a huge boost, alongside the return of Abdallah Sima who has recovered from his previous injury blow just in time for the biggest game of the season so far in Glasgow.
In other Rangers news, Scott Wright has issued a new Celtic challenge.
