All about Bengals quarterback Jake Browning, who shocked the Jaguars
The Bengals’ Week 13 matchup against the Jaguars attracted notice when the NFL released its 2023 schedule, but few predicted that the quarterback battle would pit Trevor Lawrence against Jake Browning.
Struggling with injury, the Bengals lost starting quarterback Joe Burrow to wrist surgery in November that ended his season. This loss brought Jake Browning, the guy in charge of steering the squad under center, into the limelight. Unexpectedly, Browning led Cincinnati to a win over Lawrence’s Jaguars in overtime on Monday night.

His stellar high school performance made him a four-star recruit, which helped him get into the University of Washington. While playing for the Huskies, Browning attended the Foster School of Business to further his education.
Making history at Washington
At the University of Washington, where he left his mark on the academic record books, Browning’s influence persisted. He made history as the first true freshman to start the Huskies’ season at quarterback. With 43 touchdown passes in 14 games during his sophomore campaign, Browning led UW to its first conference crown in sixteen years. His accomplishments made him the all-time passing leader at the school.
Despite his college success, Browning faced criticism in the pre-draft process, particularly regarding his size and athleticism. This led to him going undrafted in 2019. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings, spending the next two seasons on and off the practice squad. With Kirk Cousins as the established QB1, Browning gained valuable experience and insights.
