Aleix Espargaró remembered some of the American icons that have competed in the MotoGP world championship as we get closer to the GP of the Americas.
In an interview with the official MotoGP website, the Spanish rider began with the name most associated with two-wheeled enthusiasts—Kenny Roberts—and his groundbreaking, at the time, style of riding.
“This means that all the Americans who came after him had him as their idol,” he said. “As the oldest rider on the MotoGP grid, I’d like to talk about the American MotoGP stars of the past and pay tribute to them.” Yes, he significantly altered the riding technique. In my day, we began to contact the ground with our elbows, but he was the first to do it with his knee. The style of his helmets is what most sticks in my memory about him.
Aleix continued listing the American legends, saying, “I don’t remember his riding or his fights; I think he was too young.” Eddie Lawson is, in my opinion, one of the most renowned and beautiful libraries.
