It’s hard to predict what Michigan football will look like in 2024.

Michigan sign stealing: Jim Harbaugh's role, timeline, what we know

Before the 2023 season, not many people were surprised that the Wolverines would go 15-0 and win the national title. Despite numerous coaching bans (Jim Harbaugh for six games and Sherrone Moore for one), the team’s player leadership seemed capable of leading the maize and blue to the promised land, especially with the returning players and coaching staff. And in the end, that proved to be true.

However, there has been a lot of movement on the roster: the majority of the offensive starters have left. Many players from the defense are back, but the entire coaching staff on that side of the ball is new. What then will happen in 2024?
In a thought article about the college football coaching hires, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg (subscription needed) sees a lot of potential for the maize and blue, but also a team that is mostly looking to reload and maintain continuity.

His comment that Kirk Campbell, who was promoted to offensive coordinator, descended from the Joe Moorhead family is arguably the most intriguing aspect of the text. Moorhead was regarded as something of an offensive genius, whether he was at Oregon or Penn State. Josh Gattis, another Michigan native who came from his branch, had negative evaluations during his time in Ann Arbor despite winning the Broyles Award in 2021.

More importantly, regarding defense, the issue will be: What would Wink Martindale do? Of course, the scheme he ran with the Ravens had a big impact on it the previous two years, but it’s a little different. Will the current plan adapt to him, or will he adapt to the current plan? Along with further surprise hires Greg is the defensive tackle coach.
