The current world number seven later expressed satisfaction with his performance in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. “3 matches in 38 hours a short but beautiful @ROLEXMCMASTERS. Happy about my level of tennis. Things to improve still and will start working on this Monday. Enjoy the weekend,” he wrote. A user commented, “Real champions don’t cry like this. Lesson # 1.” Rune replied, saying that he would do whatever he felt like doing and adding that “he never cry.” “Hello. If I want to cry, I cry. If I want to scream, I scream. That’s me. Rafael Nadal freezes tennis in Barcelona: is this the last time?

Following the release of a video from their quarterfinal match at the Monte Carlo Masters, Holger Rune took aim at the ATP Tour, making it very evident that he was unhappy with a number of aspects of their encounter.

After two hours and forty minutes of play, Sinner defeated Rune 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-3 in a high-level contest that was also high-intensity. Sinner had the support of the audience the entire time, and in addition to dealing with jeers, Rune also had to handle a few instances where he felt mistreated.

Rune played Sumit Nagal in his first Monte Carlo match on Wednesday. The match was stopped due to rain, and he didn’t finish it until Thursday. Rune returned to the court a few hours after defeating Nagal, when he defeated Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (9) 3-6 7-6 (2).

Rune played his third match in two days on the court on Friday. After serving at 5-5 in the second set, Rune received a code penalty and a time violation for unsportsmanlike behavior. The Dane then asked to speak with the supervisor.

In the second-set tie-break, a line umpire called out on of Sinner’s shots – the chair umpire overruled it – the replay shown on TV revealed that the ball was indeed out and the initial call should have stayed.

Rune tears apart the ATP

What does that mean, @atptour? It’s not like you offered me the finest circumstances to begin with—having to play two matches in one day and finish late, which left me with very little time to recover. The Chair Umpire disrupted the game by making critical errors and issuing incorrect warnings. I hope the power is with you. Christ Jesus,” Rune wrote on X.

Although Rune managed to save two match points in the second set and force a decider, he ultimately fell short in his bid to complete a comeback.

However, Rune had his chances in the third set as he missed out on a break point in the fifth game before getting broken in the eighth game.

Rune will now turn his focus to the Madrid Masters, which starts in just over a week.
