Taiwo Awoniyi

Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi will not be able to play for Nottingham Forest when they host Luton Town at City Ground on Saturday in the Premier League, according to the club’s coach, Steve Cooper, as reported by Soccernet.

Awoniyi sustained an injury just before Forest’s Premier League against Crystal Palace two weeks ago. Following his injury, he was ruled out of action for four weeks.

As a result, he was unable to attend the Super Eagles’ two friendlies during the international break against Mozambique and Saudi Arabia.

This weekend, Nottingham Forest will play in the Premier League again. Cooper said during the pregame news conference that Awoniyi has not yet recovered to full health.

“He’s making good progress; to be honest, he won’t be long for some training. As reported by Nottingham Pos, Cooper stated, “Let’s see how next week goes.”

Awoniyi is Nottingham Forest’s highest goalscorer in the Premier League this season with three goals. He has also supplemented with two assists to help the Tricky Trees to 13th place on the league table.

Chris Wood would have to start in the Nigerian’s place, and Cooper would hope that the 31-year-old delivers the goods against a Luton side that have conceded 15 goals in eight top-flight games.

Nottingham Forest acquisition is now “ruled out,” and the player is “consigned to the utmost ostracism.”

When Gonzalo Montiel had a sequence of appearances for Nottingham Forest between December and February, the Spanish media felt that could be the turning point for the fullback at the City Ground.

The 27-year-old, who’s loaned from Sevilla, had been of little use for the Premier League side at the start of the season. Despite all those games played following Christmas, he’s now back on the bench, nearly forgotten at the English club.

Spain’s El Desmarque writes about this situation, making it clear that Montiel will not stay at Nottingham Forest, as that possibility is ‘ruled out’.

The Reds would’ve been obligated to buy the fullback had he played 50% of their games this season, with a €11m clause set at the time of the loan. Now since he’s ‘relegated to the most absolute ostracism’, that possibility is gone.

The story claims Sevilla are ‘losing’ that amount, and will now have to find a new solution for Montiel in the summer. They also make it clear that the player is highly unlikely to earn the salary he had agreed with Nottingham Forest, where he hasn’t played in two months now.
