Hayden Carter returned to the game and performed as like he had never left after a fantastic performance and victory over Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

With a win, Sam Szmodics would have returned to the top of the Championship. His lone goal against the Whites on the road secured three crucial points, making it his 30th and probably most significant of the season.

Rovers advanced up the standings and beat Daniel Farke’s squad at Elland Road for the first time in 2023–2024.

Carter, a 24-year-old who played the entire ninety minutes, slotted into the back three and contributed greatly to one of the greatest performances of the term.

Because of how strong his performance was, some may have it was worth noting that the central defender was making his first appearance in over three months after sustaining a nasty hamstring injury against Huddersfield Town in January.

The Academy graduate was overjoyed to receive the go-ahead, to be included in the starting lineup for the first time under John Eustace, and to record a crucial clean sheet.

“It’s a huge win because nobody at Leeds has earned victory this season,” he told RoversTV after the 1-0 victory in Yorkshire.

It’s fantastic to go there and demonstrate our unity and character. I thought it was a terrific game to return to, and I’m happy that we prevailed.

“We thought they would perform brilliantly since they had a chance to re-enter the top two following Leicester’s performance on Friday.

The goal was to calm the home fans and turn them against the team, which I believe we succeeded in doing.

“We had a few chances in the first half and displayed our danger on the break. Thankfully, Szmods [Szmodics] scored another goal to win it for us, and we had amazing character the entire time,” he said.
