After Pliskova withdraws from their Madrid match, Raducanu avoids the former world number one.
At the 2024 Madrid Open, Emma Raducanu was scheduled to play former world number one Karolina Pliskova, but the Czech woman withdrew.
Since winning the US Open in 2021, the British player has had her finest run in the professional tennis circuit. Raducanu had not won four games in a row since Flushing Meadows three years prior, and that was just lately.
Given that the run was made on clay, it is even more spectacular, and many people are now interested in what may occur at the WTA 1000 competition in Madrid. Because the tournament fits her play style, she has achieved some respectable results in the past.
Despite the fact that it’s a clay event, she is highly aggressive and loves to go for wins, which the thinner air in Madrid makes somewhat more possible. She didn’t have an easy draw because Karolina Pliskova, who might profit from the circumstances, was paired with her; however, the Czech will not be competing at the event.

She could still face a challenging player, but she most definitely won’t face a past world champion. Even though she would be facing the seasoned Top 20 player Veronika Kudermetova in the second round, it makes her draw considerably easier.
The British woman hopes to maintain her upward trend and raise her rating at the same time. Obviously, the more clay matches she plays, the better, especially considering the Olympic Games later this year; the higher her ranking, the better draws she may obtain.
While Pliskova’s withdrawal is undoubtedly a sad news for the Czech player, Raducanu could be relieved for her remaining clay-court matches.
