Dundee United are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Cairney as the club’s Head of Recruitment.

Michael brings a plethora of scouting and recruitment experience to Tannadice, having most recently worked with London-based investment behemoth Sport Republic, who own 80% of Southampton and other top European teams.

Michael got his start in talent identification holding a variety of jobs in the EFL pyramid before landing a scouting post with FC Twente, an Eredivisie team. With a fourth-place result in the top flight, the Tukkers, under his leadership, ensured their first appearance on the European stage in seven years.

Later in the summer of 2022, he was appointed Head of Scouting for League Two team Doncaster Rovers. During his time in Yorkshire, the 30-year-old oversaw a group of ten national scouts who were tasked with searching

Having most recently worked with London-based investment juggernaut Sport Republic, who own 80% of Southampton and other elite European teams, Michael brings a wealth of scouting and recruitment knowledge to Tannadice.

Beginning his career in talent identification, Michael held a number of positions in the EFL structure before being hired as a scout by FC Twente, an Eredivisie team. Under his direction, the Tukkers secured their first appearance on the European scene in seven years with a fourth-place finish in the premier level.
