Neeraj Chopra to miss Ostrava Golden Spike event due to injury

Chopra was hurt during a workout.

Due to an injury he suffered during training two weeks ago, reigning Olympic javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra will not be competing at the 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike sports event in Czechia. The planned date of the event is Tuesday, May 28.

“Due to an injury that he sustained in training two weeks ago (Adductor muscle), he will not be able to throw in Ostrava,” the organizers announced in a statement. Even though Chopra isn’t competing, she is nonetheless anticipated to attend the event.

The 26-year-old Indian star was scheduled to compete for the third time in the 2024 season at the Golden Spike. Earlier in the month, he won gold at the India’s Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar, throwing 82.27 meters to finish second at the Doha Diamond League on May 10.

Julian Weber, a German javelin champion, will take Chopra’s position in the Ostrava javelin competition due to his withdrawal. Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia won the Golden Spike competition last year with a modest throw of 81.93 meters.
