100m World Junior Record Holder Suspended for.

Issam Asinga of Suriname has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) due to the suspected use or presence of a prohibited substance. Just two weeks ago, Asinga stunned the athletics world by breaking the U20 100m world record at the South American Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The AIU announced the suspension on Friday, but it took effect on Wednesday due to the presence of GW1516, a drug that alters how the body metabolises fat and may increase endurance. Before a hearing to decide if the charges warrant an official sentence, provisional suspensions are imposed.

Nijel Amos of Botswana, who placed second in the 800 metres at the London 2012 Olympics, was given a temporary ban for the same metabolite last year in advance of the Eugene, Oregon, World Athletics Championships. In the end, he was suspended for three years. GW1516 was first created to treat diabetes and obesity, but since it was found to be carcinogenic, it is not permitted for usage in humans. It is not covered by the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) and is prohibited both during and after competition. According to a 2019 USADA bulletin, GW1516—which is prohibited—has been detected in various supplements and is also referred to as cardarine or endurobol. 31 sanctions were imposed globally in 2017 in relation to its use.
