Prep Hoops scout Steve Quattrocchi breaks down Trent Noah and rising hoops talent in Kentucky
The Bluegrass state is producing more and more talented high school basketball players. Trent Noah and Travis Perry, two Kentucky natives, are on the Kentucky Wildcats roster this season.
Reed Sheppard was one of the players from last year who, despite the fact that many predicted him to be a top-10 NBA Draft pick, chose to be a one-and-done player.
During John Calipari’s tenure (2009–24), the Cats only had five Kentucky players with scholarships. They were Sheppard (2023), Dontaie Allen (2019), Derek Willis (2013, 2013), Jon Hood (2009, 2009), and Dominique Hawkins (2013, 2013).
Since then, Noah asked to withdraw his National Letter of Intent from South Carolina and signed with Kentucky, while Mark Pope was able to retain Perry bound to Kentucky.
A Sea of Blue spoke with Steve Quattrocchi, a scout for Prep Hoops and the director of the Gryphon Elite AAU programme in Kentucky, about Noah’s recent commitment to the state of Kentucky and why he believes he will play in the NBA in the near future.
“As a wing, you are aware of his excellent positional size. He’s 6-foot-6 or 6-foot-7, and he always shoots the cover off the ball, which is his best and a transferable skill. However, he can also do some things with the ball, which makes him an underappreciated playmaker as well.
The first time I saw him, he was actually an eighth-grader playing point guard for Harlan County, and I just thought, ‘Hey, that’s a name to remember.’ I ended up getting to coach him about a year and a half later, but he’s a very good shooter. He’s an athlete who is far more skilled than most people realise. About a year and a half to two years ago, he underwent a physical transformation that resulted in him losing baby fat and being more stronger. This helped him with his general quickness and guarding skills, and he’s also an excellent shot blocker for his position.
