Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot has shared details about his injury scare that has prevented him from competing well since the Eugene, Oregon, 2022 World Championships.
The former world champion Cheruiyot revealed that his injuries had caused him to experience a difficult period and that it had severely hindered his ability to practice and compete.
He was the clear favourite going into the 2022 World Championships, but he didn’t live up to expectations, placing sixth in the 1500m final before taking second in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Cheruiyot suffered a painful departure from the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the previous season. He was disqualified in the race’s quarterfinal. He said that the injury had been a nightmare for him and thanked coach Bernard Ouma and his management for supporting him through the trying times.

It was difficult because injuries to athletes can occasionally cause complications, but I am grateful to my coach and management for working together to locate a fantastic rehab and physiotherapy for me.I’m glad to be back right now. I had a torn knee, so it was difficult, but I’m glad I made it.

The 28-year-old has been in excellent form this season and has participated in local races and Diamond League Meetings in preparation for the Olympic trials.
Before nearly upsetting homegrown favourite Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo, he competed in the Doha event, placing second behind Brian Komen.
Cheruiyot competed in the Africa Senior Athletics Championship trials as well, where he placed third and fifth in the 800 and 1500 metres, respectively, after doubling in both events.
