Keith Wyness, the former head of Aberdeen, has stated that the Rangers board’s management of the Ibrox renovation is a “disgrace.”
The 66-year-old, who led Aberdeen as CEO from 2000 to 2004, also held extended leadership positions at Everton and Aston Villa, and currently operates a football consultancy providing advice to elite clubs, stated in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that there may be more to this story than just a delay in building supplies.
The Rangers announced last week (20 June) that delays in material shipping may prevent them from opening the new season at Ibrox.
Due to the delays, redevelopment work on the Copland Stand may take longer than anticipated, with league and Champions
“Working intensively to ensure that all steps are taken to deliver the project at the earliest possible date and a further progress update will be issued to supporters in due course,” the Glasgow giants gave their followers the assurance.
Wyness criticizes the Rangers’ “disgraceful” Ibrox mess
Wyness responded after Rangers voiced their displeasure with Dundee’s circumstances during the last few games of the 2023–24 season.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Disgraceful is the word.
“The full story is coming out and it appears to be a lot more than just a delay in supplies.
“I worked on several stadium projects, including some of Glasgow’s largest infrastructure projects; the board finds it shameful that this has occurred.
“There was always going to be a chance that supplies from overseas might arrive, and that gets recorded on your risk register.
Rangers, if you remember last year, were complaining about Dundee not being able to play on their pitch after severe rain.
“They made a very big noise, and now here we are with Rangers not having their ground playable.”
