Aric Almirola, a NASCAR driver for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), was suspended following a physical altercation with fellow driver Bubba Wallace. The incident occurred during a strategy meeting between JGR and 23XI Racing. Almirola was deemed the instigator and received an indefinite suspension from JGR. Ty Gibbs, the grandson of JGR owner Joe Gibbs, stepped in to race in Almirola’s place at the Charlotte race and performed well, securing a ninth-place finish.
- The altercation highlights ongoing tensions between the drivers, which had previously surfaced during a public argument at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2023. Despite the controversy, Almirola is expected to return to racing for JGR in the Xfinity Series by July 20 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
